Expanded vermiculite
Once the raw vermiculite ore is treated at high temperature (800-1000 ℃), its interlayer water molecules will be burnt, and its volume will expand more than 10 times to become expanded vermiculite.
Expanded vermiculite is widely used in the following fields because of its characteristics as light weight, heat insulation and fire resistance.
The uses of Expanded vermiculite
Agriculture, forestry and Horticulture
■Agriculture, forestry and Horticulture
Expanded vermiculite can be used to produce horticultural bed soil growing media to promote the growth and development of plants, it is usually mixed with peat as an artificial soil. The granular characteristics of expanded vermiculite make it have good air permeability, which can improve soil water retention and fertilizing nutrient retention. It is also rich in potassium, magnesium and other minerals which are good for plant growth.
And when the expanded vermiculite is fired at high temperature, it becomes aseptic . So it does not need to be sterilized when used in agriculture, forestry and horticulture.
■Domestic animal feed
Building
Because of its heat insulation and sound absorption characteristics, it is used in the following aspects.
■Refractory material
■Building decoration
■Light weight concrete
■Condensation Prevention
■Roof heat insulation material
Other uses
■Hot pack
■Fish feed
■Packing material
■Friction material
■Heat insulation material for metallurgy
